A roof over my head

Ok, I'm 26 this year. I know I may pass off as a couple of years more mature than I really am but nevertheless, wipe that snigger of your face before I do it for ya. Kapish!!! Been running the rat race for slightly more than four years now and I think it's about time I make a commitment to adulthood. One sure way to do so is to purchase my very first home. I'm not looking at something overly fancy ... can't afford to at the moment anyway. So a nice comfy li'll pad will do. I've always envisioned my initial home purchase to be a condo. Some place with an good pool, panaromic view, pleasant landscaping ... well, you get the idea.

Location wise, would most definitely prefer it to be in the Klang Valley. Subang, Puchong, Damansara are all acceptable. Now comes the most important factor ... the cost. Well, I'm looking at anywhere between RM230k - RM250k. It doesn't have to be new, a 2nd hand unit would do fine as long as it's still in a fine condition.

Any input guys??? Would really appreciate it.

But in this case new is cheaper than second hand bro. If you are still staying with parents its good to take something new now. Take advantage of it. For me I moved out so when I took something new, I had to pay my existing rent and service interest at the same time while waiting for my house to be completed. Quite taxing after a while. Cos new is like waiting for 2 - 3 years. But theres pro and cons in both "2nd hand" and "new". I just list a few.

Good New - virgin waiting for you to renovate. Same like new car smell also got new house smell.
Bad New- Developer "LARI", dont know the neighbourhood until you've moved in a while

Good 2nd Hand - No need service interest move in straight. You get to see the actual neighbourhood. Check roof leaks or cracked walls or termites etc. etc.

Bad 2nd Hand - Leasehold hahahahaha

I would very much prefer to get a pad which is brand new as well but problem is the location. Prime locations are mostly fully developed already le. And those currently developing are way outta my budget. So how? :(

Yea, it's my dream to get my own home too, but condo is kinda not worth it and landed is too expensive.

Now waiting for a big big paycheck every month so that I can afford one. :-(

Unfortunately for all of us,property prices usually don't drop, they just keep going up. These days, you're budget can get you either a small single storey house in the outskirts of Kl or an apartment/condo.

With any property, you have to budget for other expenses as well..like legal fees, valuation fees and renovations etc...

Good luck!

Heya Tweets,

So we'll both keep our eyes peeled for good property bargains out there k. Lemme know if you spot good ones and vice versa. :)

Yello SC,

Firstly, congrats on your purchase!!! A pad to suit my requirements and fall within my miniscule budget is almost non existent. Well, one can still hope no. :P But realistically, I might have to settle for something further away from my comfort zone in terms of the location since the affordability factor is pretty much fixed. Heh.

aiyaa.. take some time and search. sure got wan. But one thing i dun like about condo is the monthly maintenance fee and the parking. Like when you buy alot of groceries.. walau.. have to carry so much things and walk and wait for lift..

Yea, agree with anonymous. Plus you have to bear with any grudge you have against ur neighbours(in cases like a pipe leakage or etc) coz you're like sharing your house with the other occupants of the building.

Adrian : Yea, I'm on the look out but new developments are rather far from town. :(

Yea, staying in a condo does have its pros and cons. Hence, I guess it boils down to personal preference. Sighhh ... not easy huh to find an ideal home but with preseverence ... I'm sure we'll all be able to find one someday. :D
