How I Learned To Drive, Dumpling Festival
Another weekend came and went. So how did you spend yours? Did the fuel price hike put a damper to it? One thing I managed to observe was that there were significantly less vehicles on the road. I’m serious peeps and yours truly was not the only one to notice this particular phenomena. Colleagues and friends said the bloody same thing. I guess the bitter reality that IT IS freakin’ expensive to live in this country now has finally sunk into the minds of the people. Hmmm … no more pedal to the metal for me. Bleh.
It’s been quite a while since I went to Delicious CafĂ©. So on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, SY and I had creamy carbonara spaghetini, the three cheese sandwich and the ever scrumptious classic chocolate cake layered heavily with bitter dark chocolate sauce topped with a scoop of milky vanilla ice cream. Divineeeeeeee.
From there, we managed to catch ‘How I Learned To Drive’ at the Actor’s Studio, Bangsar. It was the play’s last performance and tells the tale of Li’ll Bit, a teenage girl who develops an incestuous relationship with her Uncle Peck as he gives her driving lessons. Narrated through a series of bitter comical flashbacks, it summarizes that one can find light and salvation even through the unhealthiest of relationships. Starring Amelia Chen as Li’ll Bit, Johann Lim as Uncle Peck, Doreen Loo as the Grandmother, Davina Goh as both Mom and Aunt Anne and Mark Beau De Silva as Grampa / Waiter … the production was done well although it can be a little monotonous at certain bits. For RM33 per person, I would rate it as 5/10 only. No WOW moments for SY and I. Infact, the WOW moment came after the play as we made our way home. At the basement of the Bangsar Shopping Center, my eyes caught the sight of an ivory white ‘monster’ … the famed Nissan GTR (R35). Even stationary, it exudes speed threateningly. So dominantly sexy, I can’t help but to whip out my point-n-shoot and capture its magnificence. Seeing the GTR in all its metallic splendour up close certainly helped made my day. :D
Had dinner with SY’s family afterwards to celebrate the Dumpling Festival. Food was good and abundant … too much in fact to feed the seven of us. The roasted chicken, the roasted duck, the bbq-ed pork, steamed pumpkin, steamed fish, stir fried vegs, soup and of course, dumplings. We were stuffed silly to say the least by the end of the meal. Luckily we had time to squeeze in a few bouts of boxing on the Nintendo Wie. That definitely helped burn off some of the prior indulgence. Hehe.
After dinner, we took a lazy drive to Ara Damansara and found ourselves in ‘Ngau Che Sui’. It’s basically a covered flea market with nothing much to offer but they have the coziest looking Starbucks there. Can’t wait to bring the gang there for a visit soon. Any takers???
